IPL 2023 Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings after Qualifier 1 match (Updated)
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the first finalists of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). They defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 at the M Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, May 23.
GT skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first in the crucial encounter. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put on yet another commanding partnership for the first wicket. Gaikwad, however, got a major reprieve after being dismissed off a no-ball by Darshan Nalkande.
Gaikwad and Conway put on 87 runs for the first wicket in a little over 10 overs. CSK relied on cameos from the middle order and a solid finish ensured that they posted 172/7 on the board.
In response, GT were off to a stuttering start, losing both Wriddhiman Saha and Hardik Pandya inside the powerplay. Their run chase took a turn for the worse as they lost four wickets inside three overs to find themselves reeling at 88/5.
Rashid Khan and Vijay Shankar tried to keep the run chase alive with their cameos, but CSK held their nerve to defend their target and make it to their 10th IPL final.
