IPL 2023 Points Table: Updated standings after Gujarat Titans vs Kolkata Knight Riders match
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) moved up to second position in the IPL 2023 points table after their last-ball win over Gujarat Titans (GT). The 13th match of the ongoing marquee league saw KKR win the game by three wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, April 9.
After Gujarat chose to bat first, the defending champions piled up a fantastic score of 204/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Shubman Gill (39) and Sai Sudharsan (53) set up a good platform before Vijay Shankar smashed a 24-ball 63 to take the total over 200.
The chase was always going to be an arduous task for the Kolkata franchise. However, KKR got over the line in the most exhilarating fashion.
After enduring a rocky start, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana joined forces to steady the ship for Kolkata. The two left-handers mustered 100 runs for the third wicket, with Iyer scoring his career-best 83 and Nitish registering 45 runs.
The game turned in GT's favor once again when Rashid Khan inflicted the first hat-trick of IPL 2023, dismissing Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur off three consecutive balls.
The match was done and dusted for KKR with 38 more runs needed off just eight deliveries. GT may have thought that they would win the match but Rinku Singh had other plans.
Closing out the 19th over with a six and a boundary, Rinku had the outrageous task of hitting five sixes to win his side the game. However, the southpaw remained imperturbed and did the unthinkable.
He clobbered Yash Dayal for five consecutive lusty maximums to script a remarkable run-chase for KKR against GT.
