IPL 2024 Qualification scenarios: How can DC qualify for playoffs after their 10-run win over MI?

Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 10 runs in match 43 of IPL 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, April 27. It was sweet revenge for DC as they went down to MI by 29 runs when the sides met at the Wankhede in the first half of the tournament.

Sent into bat by Mumbai Indians on Saturday, Delhi Capitals posted an impressive 257-4 as Jake Fraser-McGurk slammed 84 off 27, while Tristan Stubbs hit 48* off 25 and Shai Hope 41 off 17. In their chase, Mumbai were held to 247-9 as Rasikh Dar Salam and Mukesh Kumar claimed three scalps each, while Khaleel Ahmed picked up two.

Following their close win over Mumbai Indians, DC find themselves in fifth position in the points table, with 10 points from 10 matches. They are among the many sides in with a chance of making the IPL 2024 playoffs.

If we talk about qualification, since the T20 league has become a 10-team tournament (starting 2022) sides have needed a minimum of 16 points to finish in the top-four.

To touch that mark, Delhi Capitals will need to win at least three of their remaining four matches. However, qualification for the playoffs might not be assured if multiple teams end up with the same number of points.

In an ideal scenario, Delhi Capitals would want to win all their remaining four matches in the league stage. If they di si, they will finish with 18 points and significantly improve their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
