IPL-winning captain smashes 50-ball hundred vs Karnataka in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024

Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer smashed a magnificent hundred in their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024 clash against Karnataka on Saturday, December 21. At the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground 'B' in Ahmedabad, Mumbai put up a massive total of 382/4 after batting first.

They were propelled by their skipper, who led from the front with an unbeaten 114 off just 55 deliveries. His scintillating ton came off just 50 balls. Overall, he smashed five fours and 10 sixes in his stellar knock, with an impressive strike rate of 207.27.

Shreyas Iyer ended as the top-scorer for Mumbai, taking the Karnataka bowlers to the cleaners and smashing them all over the park. Thus, the 30-year-old has begun the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024 on an exceptional note with the bat.

Apart from Shreyas, Ayush Mhatre (78), Hardik Tamore (84), and Shivam Dube (63*) also struck crucial half-centuries to help Mumbai post a huge total on the board. Iyer and Dube stood strong till the end, with a scintillating 148-run unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket.

Shreyas Iyer the captain has had a phenomenal 2024, garnering success by winning tournaments. Earlier this year, he captained the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title after beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

On the domestic level, he successfully led Mumbai to victory as they clinched the trophy in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The IPL and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning captain has now translated his success with the bat as well, slamming a quickfire 50-ball hundred against Karnataka for Mumbai.

Fresh from a successful campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Iyer will be keen to extend his dream run as a captain and guide Mumbai to another triumph in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024.
