Is Glenn Maxwell playing today's GT vs RCB match in IPL 2024?
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell missed a couple of matches in IPL 2024 this season due to poor form. He made a comeback into the side on Sunday for the match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Maxwell started in the playing XI regularly for the first six matches. However, he failed miserably with the bat, scoring only 32 runs at a strike rate of 94.12, with a highest score of 28.
The RCB team management then dropped him for the next three games and gave chances to other international players on the bench. The Royal Challengers have now brought back Maxwell and provided him with another chance, hoping for him to turn around his season with the bat after a poor start.
After six straight losses, the Royal Challengers returned to winning ways in their last game by beating the SunRisers Hyderabad comfortably by 35 runs.
"He will bolster the middle order and bring in some firepower" - RCB captain Faf du Plessis on Glenn Maxwell
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked GT to bat first in today's contest. On the reasons behind his decision and changes to the playing XI, he said:
"It is a 50-50 decision. We are going to chase. The local boys have told us that the wicket stays good. Bowling has been good in the last two games. Our bowlers have been exceptional and same thing for our batters too. Even against SRH, we lost but we scored big. Glenn Maxwell comes back in. He will bolster the middle order and bring in some firepower."
