Is Travis Head playing today's ENG vs AUS 2024 3rd ODI?
Australian opener Travis Head will not play in the third ODI against England at the Riverside Ground, Chester le Street on Tuesday, September 24. The opener has been replaced by Matthew Short at the top of the order.
Head was in phenomenal form heading into the ODI series. He started the series with a fine hundred against England in the first ODI along with a wicket to his name while he gave the visitors a good start in the second.
In the toss ahead of the third ODI, Australia's skipper Mitchell Marsh had the following to say:
"Starting to think whether is there a head on the coin? (chuckles). We would have bowled first as well. Green and Abbott are in as Travis is a bit sore and Zampa is ill. The main thing is to stay positive in the middle with a series to win. It is all about going out in the middle and doing the job."
Head is being replaced by Green while Sean Abbott covers for Adam Zampa. England also announced a change in their XI with Jofra Archer coming in for Olly Stone.
Australia lose an early wicket in the ENG vs AUS 3rd ODI
Hosts England won the toss and elected to bat first in the third ODI against Australia. At the toss, Harry Brook had the following to say:
"We are going to bowl first and hopefully we can exploit the conditions, Jof comes in for Stone. We have done well in the middle but haven't had results go their way. The guys are in the side for a reason and we want them to do what they have done for their counties. The atmosphere is good here."
The match is underway and Australia have lost their stand-in opener in Matthew Short (14 off 12) against the bowling of Jofra Archer. Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith are in the middle as Australia are on 33/1 after eight overs.
