Is Yashasvi Jaiswal playing today's IND vs BAN 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match?
India have not picked Yashasvi Jaiswal for their ICC Men's 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The Men in Blue have backed their opening duo of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli despite their lack of runs. The Men in Blue are going into the match with the same XI that beat Afghanistan in Barbados.
There have been growing question marks over Rohit and Kohli's place at the top of the batting order in the wake of their poor performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Rohit began his campaign with a hard-fought half-century in the team's opening match against Ireland. In his last three visits to the crease, though, he has registered scores of 13, 3 and 8.
Shifting focus to Kohli, he was dismissed for 1 in India's opening game against Ireland. In the team's last three games, he has registered scores of 4, 0 and 24. The right-hander got a start in a match against Afghanistan. However, just when it seemed like he was getting into his groove, he fell in his endeavor to go after leg-spinner Rashid Khan, caught in the deep.
Michael Vaughan wants Jaiswal to open the batting
The critics are divided over India's opening combination for the 2024 T20 World Cup. While some feel that Kohli and Rohit must be backed to do the job, a few others reckon that Jaiswal must come in at the top of the order.
According to former England captain Michael Vaughan, Jaiswal must open, while either Kohli or Rohit should move down to No. 3.
"I love Yashasvi Jaiswal, I'd want him to be opening the batting. Virat or Rohit at No.3, I'm not too bothered by which right-hander goes to No.3. Shivam Dube is at No.5 but in the Caribbean I'd have Rishabh Pant in there. Yashasvi is an incredible player. He is such a good batter, I would want him in," Vaughan was quoted as telling Cricbuzz.
"I like the fact that they have gone with left-handers. I thought not having enough left-handers was a mistake from India in the past so I can kind of understand that but I would want Jaiswal in my team," he added.
22-year-old Jaiswal has played 17 T20Is for India in which he has scored 502 runs at an average of 33.46 and a strike rate of 161.93, with one ton and four fifties.
