Ishan Kishan roped in by SRH for INR 11.25 crore in IPL 2025 Auction

The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have secured the services of wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan for a sum of INR 11.25 crore during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction in Jeddah on Sunday, November 24. This marks the left-handed player's third IPL franchise following stints with the Gujarat Lions and the Mumbai Indians (MI).

His name instantly triggered a bidding war, considering his potential, with his former franchise offering to pay the base price of INR 2 crore. It was not long before the pair of PBKS and DC joined in. SRH swooped into the proceedings when the price was hanging at INR 10.25 crore, eventually going onto win after making the final bid moments later.

With SRH already having two left-handed batters at the top of the order in Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, the latest addition is likely to slip in at No.3, and is an ideal candidate to take the baton from the explosive opening combination. He has donned a similar role for the national team as well on sporadic occasions as well.

It is evident that the Orange Army had their sights on the wicket-keeper batter for quite a while. During the previous mega-auction, SRH had gone toe-to-toe with the Mumbai Indians (MI) for Kishan's services, but had lost out after the latter made the winning bid of INR 15.25 crore, which was also the biggest signing of that particular auction.

Jitesh Sharma bags a similar price to Ishan Kishan after being signed by RCB

Fellow Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma was also in demand like Ishan Kishan among the IPL franchises. The 31-year-old attracted interest from a number of teams, before the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made the winning bid of INR 7 crore.

His former franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) had opted to use the Right to Match (RTM) card, but were unwilling to match the counter bid of INR 11 crore raised by RCB. With Dinesh Karthik retiring after the 2024 season and opting to join the backroom staff, the franchise were in dire need of a wicket-keeper batter who could finish off the innings.
