Ishan Kishan smashes big hundred off just 64 balls in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024
Team India discard Ishan Kishan seems determined to make a comeback into the international side. He made a strong statement with a brilliant ton in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.
Ishan Kishan is leading Jharkhand. In their match against Manipur on Monday (December 23), the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter powered his way to a blistering hundred off just 64 deliveries, opening the batting.
Manipur batted first and posted a modest total of 253/7 from their 50 overs. In the run-chase, Ishan took matters into his own hands, leading from the front with a spectacular ton. He smashed 134 runs off just 78 deliveries including 16 fours and 6 sixes at an impressive strike-rate of 171.79.
On the back of his magnificent quick-fire and big century, Jharkhand made light work of the run-chase, getting past the finish line in just 28.3 overs with eight wickets to spare. The left-hander has been out of the national setup and with this performance, has given everyone a reminder of his potential and excellent batting abilities once again.
Ishan Kishan's quest for a national comeback
Despite being immensely talented, Ishan Kishan has had his fair share of struggles with form and consistency, finding it difficult to permanently cement his spot in the Indian team.
The left-hander last played an ODI for India against Afghanistan in 2023 during the home World Cup. However, he played only the initial matches of the tournament and was not a regular member of the playing XI throughout.
He scored a run-a-ball 47 in the game against Afghanistan and has not featured in the playing XI of the ODI squad after that match. He played only two matches in the World Cup and failed to score in his other game.
Ishan Kishan made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2021 and has played 27 matches in the format. He has scored 933 runs at an average of 42.40 and a strike-rate of 102.19 with one century and seven half-centuries.
Given his stellar ton in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, he will be keen to carry on his good form and put up a consistent display in his quest to return to the national side.
