"It all counts for nothing" - Tabraiz Shamsi pens emotional note after 2024 T20 World Cup final loss

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi shared his emotional thoughts on social media after his side's T20 World Cup 2024 final loss to India. He stated that a "well-played Silver" amounted to "nothing" because it wasn't gold.

South Africa lost to India by seven runs in the final in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The Proteas team was one of the best in recent memory and overcame the previous sides' burden of crashing out in the semi-finals.

Even in the final, they matched India for 35 overs before losing the plot against the Men in Blues' death-bowling prowess in the final five.

"Whether u play badly and lose or play very well and lose, in my books it all counts for nothing because a well played Silver will never be the same as Gold," he wrote on X alongside photos with his family after the game.
"We gave our all as a team n fought with everything we had and will be back to try again. Still hurts like hell 😭," Shamsi added.

Shamsi had an excellent T20 World Cup on the personal front as well. In five matches, he took 11 wickets at an average of 11.64. However, he went wicketless in the final - the only time in the competition - in slightly difficult spin-bowling conditions.

"We will get back up" - Tabraiz Shamsi

Soon after the final, Shamsi spoke about the honor of representing South Africa and thanked the Proteas' fans for their support.

"This one is so so painful πŸ’”" he said. "We tried... we failed... we will get back up and try again next time! It's an honour to be able to represent our country and be a part of this amazing team πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Thank you to everyone who prayed for us and lived every moment with us"

The South African men's team will next feature in a two-match Test series in the West Indies in August.
