"It has been a while since India had a left-arm seamer" - Parthiv Patel wants Yash Dayal in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd Test
Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has backed Yash Dayal to make his India debut against Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, which starts on Friday, September 27. The former wicketkeeper-batter pointed out the lack of left-arm pacers in the red-ball format for India and reckoned that Dayal had 'tremendous potential' to deliver in Tests.
Notably, Dayal has picked up 76 wickets in 24 first-class matches for Uttar Pradesh. The 26-year-old has also bagged 32 wickets in 20 List-A games. He has also scalped 28 wickets in as many Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
Parthiv Patel told ANI (via The Times of India):
"This will be a great chance to see a left-armer. It has been a while since India had a left-arm seamer, so I feel if he gets the chance, it will be good. We will know. Yash Dayal has tremendous potential. So I don't think there is harm in trying."
"They will have to wait for their chances" - Parthiv Patel on Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan
Parthiv Patel added that wicketkeeper-batters Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel will have to wait for their chances after the return of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul in the mix. Pant scored a century on his return to the format after 19 months following recovery from injuries sustained in a car accident.
The cricketer-turned-commentator said:
"I don't think Sarfaraz and Dhruv will make a comeback to the side. Rishabh has just made a comeback. Both of them are very very talented players and very much ready for Test cricket. But they will have to wait for their chances."
Notably, Sarfaraz scored 200 runs in five innings, including three half-centuries against England in his debut Test series. Jurel also amassed 190 runs in four innings with a best score of 90 in the same series.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul will be under pressure to keep his place in the India squad for the three-match home Test series against New Zealand, which starts in October. The right-handed batter threw away his wicket for 16 off 52 balls in the first innings of the opening Test against Bangladesh. He scored a quickfire 22 off 19 balls in the second essay.
India’s squad for the 2nd Test against Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
