"It is about time we embrace an approach like this"- Ravichandran Ashwin hails India's batting effort against Bangladesh in T20 World Cup
Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hailed the Men in Blue for their fearless approach with the bat against Bangladesh. It came in their T20 World Cup Super 8 encounter in Antigua on Saturday, June 22. India posted a mammoth 196/5 in their 20 overs.
Five of the top six batters scored crucial 20s and 30s with Hardik Pandya being the top-scorer amassing 50* off 27 balls. Ashwin believes the scorecard shows how the entire batting line-up was committed to playing the ultra-aggressive brand of cricket. He added that they weren't worried about losing their wicket in the process for the team's cause.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ravichandran Ashwin urged fans to embrace the brand of cricket and not worry about individual scores. Here's what he wrote:
"We are not used to an approach where batsmen throw it away after making 30βs 20βs, but it is about time we embrace an approach like this especially while batting first. πππ Top Intent from all the Indian batters so farππ#INDvBAN #T20WorldCup"
Team India smashed as many as 13 sixes in their innings and were rewarded for keeping their foot on the gas despite losing wickets at crucial junctures.
Apart from Ashwin, Wasim Jaffer also lauded India and Hardik Pandya
Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer hailed the Men in Blue for their effort with the bat on his X account. He shed light on how every batter in the top six hit a maximum and also praised Hardik for his fantastic half-century.
Here's what Jaffer wrote:
"Refreshing to see the intent from the Indian batters today. Every batter in top 6 hit at least a six and ensured there was no drop in run rate even after wkts fell. Top inns and finish from @hardikpandya7ππ» #INDvBAN #T20WC"
The Men in Blue have begun well with the ball, conceding just 27 runs in four overs at the time of writing.
