Zimbabwe beat Team India by 13 runs in the first T20I of the five-match series on Saturday (July 6) at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. It was the first loss in the T20I format this year for the reigning World Champions. None of the players who won the World Cup last week were a part of the playing XI.
After being asked to bat first, Zimbabwe managed to reach a respectable total of 115/9 in 20 overs on a tricky surface. Clive Madande (29*) top-scored for his side with a decent contribution while a couple of other batters chipped in with 20s.
Ravi Bishnoi (4/13) and Washington Sundar (2/11) starred for the visiting team in the bowling department.
Tendai Chatara (3/16), Sikandar Raza (3/25), and others bowled magnificently for Zimbabwe and bundled India for 102 in 19.5 overs. Shubman Gill (31), Washington Sundar (27), and Avesh Khan (16) were the only batters to reach double digits for the Men in Blue.
The low-scoring thriller between India and Zimbabwe entertained the fans. They expressed their reactions by sharing hilarious memes on social media platforms like X and Instagram.

"We were rusty on the field" - India captain Shubman Gill after Zimbabwe beat them in 1st T20I in Harare
At the post-match presentation, Indian captain Shubman Gill acknowledged that his side bowled well but let themselves down with a below-par fielding performance. Reflecting on the disappointing loss, Gill said:
"We bowled well, but we were rusty on the field and have let ourselves down. We spoke about taking some time and enjoying the time out there without much pressure but it didn't pan out that way."
He continued:
"Halfway down the stage in the chase, we lost five wickets, if I had stayed till the end, maybe we were in with a chance and disappointed with how things panned after I got out. There was a bit of hope for us when you were chasing 115 and you want a number 10 batter to do it, it shows something is wrong."
The two teams will square off in the second T20I on Sunday (July 7) at the same venue. The T20 World Champions will be hoping to level the series with a win when the two sides meet tomorrow.
