Khaled Mahmud resigns as Bangladesh Cricket Board Director owing to political change in country
Khaled Mahmud has stepped down from his position as the Bangladesh Cricket Board director following political changes in the country.
Mahmud won the election to become the BCB director by beating Gazi Ashraf Hossain in 2013. He served three terms, but now, he has resigned before completing his latest term.
As per Cricbuzz, Mahmud resigned because of the ripple effect in the nation's political affairs. Before Mahmud stepped down, BCB president Nazmul Hassan had also resigned from his post.
Mahmud had a successful run as the BCB director. He was in charge of developing the game in the country, and in 2020, Bangladesh won the U-19 World Cup. Moreover, he also served as the interim coach and manager of Bangladesh on different occasions.
Several BCB officials step down along with Nazmul Hassan and Khaled Mahmud
It's pertinent to note that former president Nazmul Hassan and ex-director Khaled Mahmud are not the only ones who have stepped down from their positions in the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Other board officials, namely Jalal Yunus, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury and Naimur Rahman have also done so.
Several changes are expected to happen in the BCB over the next few weeks. However, the changes in the board won't impact the team's preparation for the upcoming away World Test Championship series against India. The India vs Bangladesh series starts next week in Chennai.
Bangladesh will be high on confidence, having beaten Pakistan 2-0 in their previous Test series. Meanwhile India haven't lost a World Test Championship series on home soil.
It will be a two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh. As mentioned earlier, Chennai will host the first Test on September 19 followed by another at Kanpur's Green Park from September 27 to October 1.
