KKR vs PBKS: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2024?
Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets in yesterday's IPL 2024 match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
In yet another high-scoring clash in which bowlers were taken to the cleaners, KKR put up 261-6 after being asked to bat first. PBKS, though, pulled off the highest successful chase in T20 history, chasing down the target in 18.4 overs.
Chasing 262, Punjab Kings got off to a rollicking start, as Jonny Bairstow (108* off 48) and Prabhsimran Singh (54 off 20) added 93 for the first wicket in only six overs. Prabhsimran went ballistic from the word go and raced to 50 off 18, striking four fours and five sixes.
The Punjab opener got to his half-century in style, launching Sunil Narine for a maximum over deep backward square leg. Anukul Roy conceded 24 in the last over of the powerplay as Bairstow clubbed him for two sixes and three fours. However, there was some respite for KKR, as Prabhsimran was run out by a direct hit off the last ball of the over.
Rilee Rossouw came in and contributed 26 off 16 before Bairstow and Shashank featured in an unbroken third-wicket stand of 84.
Bairstow reached a spectacular hundred off only 45 balls by smashing Harshit Rana to deep cover for a couple. The game ended with a flurry of fours and sixes as Shashank raised a 23-ball fifty with a leg-side six off Rana.
Salt, Narine star with the bat for KKR yet again
Sent into bat by Punjab Kings, the Kolkata Knight Riders opening duo of Phil Salt (75 off 37) and Sunil Narine (71 off 32) shone once again. The enterprising duo added 138 for the first wicket in 10.2 overs.
Narine struck nine fours and four sixes before holing out in the deep, trying to go after Rahul Chahar. Salt slammed consecutive sixes off Sam Curran in the 13th over before being knocked over by a full and straight delivery. His entertaining knock included six fours and as many sixes.
There was no respite for Punjab's bowlers even after the Kolkata openers were back in the hut. Venkatesh Iyer (39 off 23), Andre Russell (24 off 12) and Shreyas Iyer (28 off 10) \chipped in with handy knocks. Little did KKR know that PBKS would return the favor in kind.
