KSCA Secretary, Treasurer resign after stampede tragedy during RCB's IPL 2025 victory celebrations in Bengaluru: Reports

A stampede broke out during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4. In the latest development, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary and Treasurer have resigned, as per News18.

RCB beat the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final on Tuesday, June 3, to lift their maiden IPL trophy. This was followed by a victory celebration the very next day. However, things went south as 11 people lost their lives, with several injured in a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

KSCA Secretary, A Shankar, and Treasurer, E Jairam, tendered their resignations on Friday, June 6, with immediate effect.

“This is to inform that due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, by way of a letter dated 06.06.2025 to the President of Karnataka State Cricket Association," the Secretary and Treasurer issued a press release.

RCB's marketing head, Nikhil Sosale, along with a few members of DNA Entertainment Private Limited, were earlier arrested in connection with the stampede.

RCB end 18-year wait for IPL title

While the celebration turned into a tragedy, the fact remains that RCB ended their 18-year wait to win an IPL title. They had an exceptional campaign, right from start to finish.

They were among the most consistent teams at the league stage, finishing second with nine wins and 19 points from 14 games. After securing a top-two finish, they faced PBKS in the first qualifier, where they registered a dominating eight-wicket win to advance to the summit clash.

In the final, Bengaluru batted first and posted a competitive total of 190/9 from their 20 overs. They then put up a collective bowling effort to restrict PBKS to 184/7 and win the game by six runs. Bengaluru lifted the IPL trophy for the first time in the history of the league. The team had come close previously, having played the finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016, but had failed to cross the finish line.
