Labuschagne dishes out a death stare to Beardman after getting in the way of a catch during ENG vs AUS 2024 3rd ODI
Australia's Marnus Labuschagne was left fuming after 12th man Mahli Beardman got in his attempt to take a catch by the boundary line. The incident happened during the third ODI against England in Durham on Tuesday, September 24.
In the 34th over of the run chase, all-rounder Liam Livingstone hit a pull shot behind square off Cameron Green. Labuschagne had to run to his right to pull off a stunner and got into a relatively good position to either claim the catch or save the six. However, he was unable to do either as he was distracted by Beardman standing right beside the boundary line.
Labuschagne had to try not to collide with Beardman as the latter impeded him in his pursuit of taking a catch. The ace batter swerved at the last minute and crashed into the advertisement hoarding while glaring at the 12th man for getting in his way. Have a look at the incident right here.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain remarked that Beardman certainly got in the way of Labuschagne's attempt, with the replays only confirming it further.
“He sure was. He was just walking around. He’d have been in the line of sight as Labuschagne was going around. Labuschagne has a look at him as if to say, ‘Mate, there’s a game going on here’. Well he gives him the stare and I can sort of understand why. I can completely understand why," Nasser Hussain said on air.
The match was brought to a halt due to rain soon after. The game did not resume after the 38th over, and England were awarded the win as they were considerably ahead of the DLS par score.
Labuschagne was dismissed in an unlucky fashion in the first innings
Australia, leading 2-0 in the five-match series, were put into bat first by Harry Brook in Durham. Labushcagne had come into bat at the halfway mark of the innings after the top four batters laid down a decent platform to build on.
However, the right-handed batter was dismissed for a three-ball duck instead. He tried to lay the paddle off Will Jacks, but the ball ended up deflecting off his helmet and lobbing straight up to be caught by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
The lower order again came to Australia's rescue, with Alex Carey scoring another fifty. The visitors posted 304-7, which wasn't enough as Harry Brook recorded his maiden ODI ton in the run chase to guide England to a win via the DLS method.
