“Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream” - Suryakumar Yadav reacts after being appointed as India’s captain in T20Is

Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav thanked fans for all the love and support he has been receiving since being appointed captain of Team India in T20Is. The Men in Blue team was announced on Thursday, July 18, for the upcoming three-game T20I and three-game ODI series against Sri Lanka.

In his first assignment as head coach of India, Gautam Gambhir made a major decision. He named Suryakumar Yadav the captain of the team in the shortest format of the game, with Shubman Gill as his deputy.

Following his appointment as captain, Yadav shared his emotions on Instagram on Friday, July 19. The T20I captain of India said the new role will bring a lot of responsibility, and he hopes to continue receiving the support and blessings of fans.

"Thank you so much for the outpouring love, support and best wishes from you. Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and I am truly grateful.🧿 Playing for country is the most special feeling that I will never be able to describe in words," Surya wrote.

Team India is going through a transition phase in T20Is. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup.


Rohit Sharma to lead the team in ODI series

Rohit Sharma will continue to be the captain in the 50-over format for the Men in Blue. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli also returns for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. In a major development, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped from the ODI series. Shubman Gill will serve as the vice-captain in the ODI format as well.
