Team India scored a mammoth total of 283/1 in the first innings of the fourth T20I against South Africa on Friday (November 15) at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The visitors currently have an unassailable 2-1 lead in the four-match series.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bat first on a flat surface. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave a brisk start with a fiery 73-run opening partnership in just 5.5 overs. Abhishek hit four sixes and two fours en route to 36 (18) before perishing at the end of the powerplay.

Tilak Varma then joined hands with Samson, and the duo went on a carnage, smashing the bowlers all around the park to notch up their centuries.

After two ducks in the previous matches, Sanju Samson turned things around with his third T20I century. Tilak Varma became the second Indian batter to hit consecutive centuries in two T20Is. The duo's marathon 210-run partnership helped India reach a massive total of 283, their second-highest in the format.

"I kept on believing in myself"- India batter Sanju Samson after his century in 1st innings of 4th T20I vs South Africa 2024

After the conclusion of the first innings of the fourth T20I, Sanju Samson reflected on his batting performance, saying (as quoted by Cricbuzz):

"I have had so many failures in my life, got two hundreds and then two ducks, I kept on believing in myself, kept on working hard and it came off today. After a couple of failures there were a lot of things going on in my head, Abhishek helped me out early on and then Tilak as well. "

He continued:

"I have had so many partnerships with him, he is a very young prospect and he is the future of Indian cricket and lovely to have a partnership with him. I don't like to talk much, last time I talked too much I got a couple of ducks, I would like to keep it simple and focus on what I can do."
