"Like I have been rested for a series"- Rohit Sharma on T20I retirement

Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that the feeling of having retired from the T20I format had still not sunk in for him. Rohit announced his retirement from the format after India's thrilling win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final in June.

According to Rohit, winning the T20 World Cup was the perfect way of bidding adieu from the format. He had also opened up on how special the format had been to him as he had also won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup.

Speaking to the reporters ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, here's what Rohit Sharma had to say about his T20I retirement (via RevSportzGlobal):

"At the moment, the T20I retirement feeling is like I have been rested for a series."

Rohit also opened up on Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy in the T20I series against Sri Lanka which India won 3-0. However, he didn't want to get ahead and felt Suryakumar needed time to settle into his new role. On this, Rohit added:

"Early days for Surya as T20I captain. Good start, but let him do the job a bit more."

Rohit Sharma had taken to Instagram to post a picture of India's T20I team posing with the trophy after the 3-0 win against Sri Lanka and had congratulated Suryakumar and Co.


Rohit Sharma reacts to Anshuman Gaekwad's passing

Rohit also shared his thoughts about former Indian opener Anshuman Gaekwad passing away after a prolonged battle with cancer. He opened up on the occasions he had a chat with the late former cricketer and stated:

"Absolutely devastated to hear the news of Anshuman Gaekwad's passing. I was lucky to have a few chances to talk to him in the past."

The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Colombo on Friday, August 2.
