India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to solidify their position at the top of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) points table. After 10 matches in the ongoing WTC cycle, they have 86 points, with a points percentage of 71.67. India have won seven and lost only two of their matches, while one game ended in a draw.
Sent into bat, India recovered from 144-6 to post 376 in their first innings of the Chennai Test. Jasprit Bumrah then shone with 4-50 as the visitors were bundled out for 149 in 47.1 overs. India set Bangladesh a target of 515 courtesy of tons from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill. Local lad Ravichandran Ashwin added a six-fer to his first-innings hundred as Bangladesh were bowled out for 234.
The second Test of the two-match India vs Bangladesh series will be played at Green Park in Kanpur starting Friday, September 27. Given their current form, India look set to feature in their third consecutive World Test Championship final, which will be played at Lord's, London from June 11 to June 15. However, they still have a few Test matches left to play as part of the ongoing WTC cycle.

After the second Test against Bangladesh, India will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series in October-November. The Rohit Sharma-led side will then fly to Australia for a grueling five-match Test series to be played as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
