IND vs ENG World Cup 2023 warm-up match called off due to rain without a ball being bowled

The India vs England World Cup 2023 warm-up match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday, September 30 has been called off due to persistent rain without a ball being bowled.

The cut-off time for the game to start was 7:30 PM. However, with the weather refusing to relent the match was abandoned at around 5:40 PM itself.

Rain delayed the start of the match after the toss took place at the scheduled time. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the rain came down before the first ball could be bowled.

Speaking after winning the toss, Indian captain Rohit said:

“No particular reason [behind batting first], it's very hot out there. Just want to make sure that our bowlers stay fresh and bowl under the lights which is not going be so taxing for the bowlers. Because we have been playing lot of cricket off late, so just want to make sure that we are looking after them.
“We just got to play good cricket, we played 7 or 8 games recently, and we want to make sure that the guys stay fresh for the 8th of October. We are playing one of the top teams and everyone is fit and ready to go,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
