"Love him" - Australian cricketer picks MS Dhoni as his favorite Indian player while growing up
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey picked MS Dhoni as his favorite Indian player growing up. Players of the Australian cricket team were recently asked to name their favorite Indian cricketer growing up in front of the camera. Marquee stars such as Steve Smith, Pat Cummins and Travis Head named their favorite players.
In a video posted by ABC Sport on Instagram, Carey said that MS Dhoni was his favorite player growing up and that he loved watching him. Carey said:
"MS Dhoni. He was probably old enough that I was growing up. Played against him, and yeah, I love him as a player."
The majority who were asked the question responded with Sachin Tendulkar's name, stating that they have watched him bat the longest. Australian batter Glenn Maxwell while stating Tendulkar's name, had a different answer and later mentioned VVS Laxman. Maxwell said:
"I think another different one was VVS Laxman. I used to love the way he used to whip balls from outside off stump and then hit the same one through covers. I think he scored a couple of 160s at the SCG, I remember. He was the one whom I loved watching."
Opener Usman Khawaja said former Team India opener Virender Sehwag was his favorite Indian cricketer growing up. After a long pause, he recollected his name and responded.
"Sehwag, Sehwag. He was awesome."
