"Loyalty is very expensive" - Nitish Rana's wife shares cryptic tweet after KKR let go of the batter at IPL 2025 auction
India's left-handed batter Nitish Rana's seven-year stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has ended. At the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Kolkata did not raise their paddle even once for the 30-year-old, raising many eyebrows. KKR's snub also seemed to disappoint Rana's wife Saachi Marwah, who shared a cryptic tweet on X about loyalty being expensive.
The southpaw is now set to ply his trade for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) after being picked for ₹4.20 crore. Apart from Rajasthan, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) attempted to snap up the batter.
Saachi shared a quote that read:
"Loyalty is very expensive, not everyone can afford it."
KKR retained six players, the maximum according to the rules, ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Due to this decision, they entered the event with no Right to Match (RTM) cards.
The defending champions spent ₹50.95 crore at the two-day auction to sign 15 new players. While they didn't bid for Nitish Rana, they went all out to bring back India all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, shelling out a whopping ₹23.75 crore.
Nitish Rana is the fourth-highest run-getter for KKR in IPL
Nitish Rana enjoyed a brilliant run with the Kolkata-based franchise in the IPL. He was roped in by the franchise in 2018 for ₹3.40 crore. He was re-signed by the team for ₹8 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
The left-handed batter was a pivotal cog in KKR's batting lineup during his time with the three-time champions. He chalked up 2,199 runs across 86 innings at a strike rate of 136.32, making him the fourth-highest run-getter for Kolkata in the league's history.
Rana also captained KKR in IPL 2023 after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the edition due to an injury. He didn't have a big role to play in the team's IPL 2024 triumph as he featured in only two matches due to a finger injury.
