Mallika Sagar set to conduct IPL 2025 mega auction – Reports

Auctioneer Mallika Sagar is set to conduct the IPL 2025 mega auction, which will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, Times of India report. This will be Sagar's second consecutive IPL auction following the mini-auction in 2024, where she replaced Hugh Edmeades.

She had thus become the first female auctioneer in the IPL. She also hosted the first two auctions for the Women’s Premier League (WPL). As per the aforementioned report, Sagar has two decades of experience as an auctioneer.

She completed her studies at Bryn Mawr College in Philadephia and began her career at an international auction house in New York City. Apart from cricket, Sagar also hosted the auction for the eighth edition of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).

Other notable IPL auctioneers from the past are Richard Madley and Charu Sharma.


204 spots up for grabs as 574 players shortlisted for IPL 2025 auction

A total of 204 spots are up for grabs for the IPL 2025 auction since all franchises can have a maximum of 25 players. A total of 574 players have been shortlisted for the auction of which 366 are from India, 208 overseas, including three from associate nations. The highest reserve price is INR 2 crore and 81 players have opted for the highest bracket.

A total of 46 players have been retained ahead of the mega auction, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) retaining the least number of players – two. As a result, they will enter the auction with the highest purse. Each team can have six players from the last season, including the Right to Match (RTM) option.

Big players, including IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul have registered for the mega auction. Overseas players, including James Anderson, have also enrolled for the auction. The mega auction will begin at 1pm IST on Sunday, November 24. It will coincide with the first Test between India and Australia but with a time gap due to different time zones.
