"Many more to come" - Yuvraj Singh reacts to Abhishek Sharma's maiden T20I hundred
Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh heaped praise on young prodigy Abhishek Sharma after his whirlwind hundred in the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Saturday. The former World Cup winner took to social media, hoping for the southpaw to hit many more tons in his career.
Abhishek registered a duck on his T20I debut and started rustily in the second T20I. Although the 23-year-old opening batter began his innings with a six, Abhishek struggled to get going before the 10-over mark after Shubman Gill perished cheaply.
However, the youngster was unstoppable after he got a reprieve, as he took all Zimbabwe bowlers to the cleaners. Abhishek got to his century with three consecutive sixes off Wellington Masakadza's bowling off only 46 deliveries but perished soon after.
Taking to X, Yuvraj Singh, who has been mentoring the left-hander, wrote:
"Rome wasn't built in a day! Congratulations @IamAbhiSharma4 on the journey to your first International 100! Many more to come."
Abhishek Sharma notably spoke to Yuvraj over a video call following India's massive win over Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday.
"None of us went into our shells after losing" - Abhishek Sharma
At the post-match presser, Abhishek Sharma admitted that it was demoralizing to lose the first T20I the way they did, but said it also encouraged the players to put a complete performance in the next.
He said:
"Losing a game like that after the country has won a T20 World Cup was disappointing for the players. But still, we were all youngsters and have been playing together and against each other since childhood. So none of us went into our shells after losing, we were instead all together and thinking about the hard work we put in all those years and how this is the ultimate goal for all of us, so we should enjoy and focus on the next thing. Mindset was to forget what has happened and focus on the next match."
The third T20I between the two sides will take place on Wednesday, June 10.
