Mayank Yadav gets maiden call-up, Varun Chakravarthy returns as selectors announce squad for the IND vs BAN 2024 T20I series

Varun Chakravarthy made a comeback into the national side as the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced a 15-man squad for their upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The series commences on October 6 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior.

The squad sees eight players being retained from the previous T20I series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav continues to lead the squad while players part of the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh have been rested with an eye on the Test series against New Zealand and Australia later this year.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour earlier this year due to injuries, makes a return to the squad along with Abhishek Sharma, who was left out of the squad for the Sri Lankan tour.

Mayank Yadav, who impressed everyone with his raw pace in IPL 2024, received his maiden call-up. Ishan Kishan, who was being touted as the second keeper in this squad, has been left out in favor of Jitesh Sharma.

Varun Chakravarthy makes a comeback into Team India after three years. The 33-year-old last featured for the Indian team in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He featured in three games and went wicketless.

The mystery spinner played a vital role to help Kolkata Knight Riders emerge victorious in IPL 2024. In 15 games, he returned with 21 scalps at an average of 19.14, and stood second among the highest wicket-takers.

Chakravarthy was then part of the Dindigul Dragons squad along with Ravichandran Ashwin as the franchise lifted the TNPL 2024.
