"Me watching 29 June videos on 19 November"- Top 10 funny memes on 1st anniversary of India's loss in 2023 ODI World Cup final vs Australia
Fans shared a variety of memes on the first anniversary of India's loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final on Tuesday (November 19). Many fans did not anticipate the loss following a dominant run through the league stage and a commanding semi-final win.
The Men in Blue bulldozed through opposition teams in the league stage, winning all nine games convincingly. Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring 597 runs at the top of the order. Senior batter Virat Kohli stepped up in style, accumulating a record-breaking 765 runs and topping the run-scoring charts. The bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, had breathed fire throughout the tournament and drove the team to the summit clash.
However, the law of averages caught up with India on the big day as their batting unit had a miserable outing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts got off to a brisk start on the back of Rohit Sharma's cameo of 47 (31) and reached 76 inside 10 overs.
But Rohit's dismissal in the 10th over changed the complexion of the game. KL Rahul (66) and Virat Kohli (54) tried to rebuild the innings but couldn't maintain momentum as the runs dried up. Australian bowlers mounted the pressure on the batters, chipped away with wickets, and bundled the hosts for 240.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami gave their best with the new ball and beat the Australian batters' edges numerous times but without much luck. Travis Head weathered the storm and powered his side to victory with a scintillating century.
Fans remembered the painful memories from last year and expressed their reactions by compiling intriguing memes on social media platforms. One fan wrote:

"Wasn't our day, we tried everything we could, but just wasn't to be"- India captain Rohit Sharma after losing 2023 ODI World Cup final vs Australia
At the post-match presentation after the final, a disappointed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reflected on the loss, saying:
"We weren't good enough. But I'm proud of how we played from game one. Wasn't our day, we tried everything we could, but just wasn't to be. We were looking at 270-280, but then we kept losing wickets. That's exactly what Australia did. When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets as early as possible. We did that."
He added:
"Credit to Travis Head and Marnus, they stitched a partnership and put us out of the game completely. We tried everything we could, but I thought the wicket got slightly better under lights. We knew the wicket'd be slightly better under lights, but don't want to give that as an excuse."
