MI vs RCB: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2023
Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in yesterdayโs Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Sent into bat after losing the toss, RCB put up 199-6 as captain Faf du Plessis (65 off 41) and Glenn Maxwell (68 off 33) struck half-centuries. Suryakumar Yadav, though, smashed a scintillating 83 off 35 balls as MI chased down the target in 16.3 overs.
Ishan Kishan (42 off 21) got Mumbai off to a terrific start in the chase even as Rohit Sharma (7 off 8) was subdued at the other end. The left-hander clubbed Mohammed Siraj for consecutive sixes in the third over. He then launched the first ball of the third over from Josh Hazlewood for another maximum over deep square leg.
Wanindu Hasaranga brought RCB back into the contest, dismissing both openers in the fifth over. After thumping the leg-spinner for a four and a six, Kishan nicked a skidder to the keeper. Rohit was then adjudged lbw via DRS as he missed an attempt to work one on the leg side.
Suryakumar and Nehal Wadhera (52* off 34) then put RCB out of the contest, adding 140 runs for the third wicket. The duo combined to whack Hasaranga for a six each in the 11th over. Suryakumar raced to 50 in only 26 balls as the big hits kept coming. He carried on attacking even after crossing the landmark, slog-sweeping Hasaranga for two sixes in the 15th over.
The right-handed batter fell in the next over to Vijaykumar Vyshak, but not before tonking the pacer for 6, 4, 6. Tim David perished for a golden duck, chipping a catch to long-off.
Wadhera closed out the game in emphatic fashion, hammering Harshal Patel for a maximum over the cover boundary. With the win, MI jumped to third in the standings.
Du Plessis, Maxwell lift RCB to 199-6
Batting first, RCB overcame a poor start to post 199-6. Du Plessis was dropped by Wadhera at midwicket in the first over, but Virat Kohli (1) fell off the very next delivery, caught behind while attempting to heave Jason Behrendorff. MI used a review to successfully get the decision in their favour.
Anuj Rawat (6) then played a strange stroke, also falling to Behrendorff. He got in position for a scoop, but after Behrendorff followed him, he tried to open the bat face but only managed a top edge.
Du Plessis and Maxwell added 120 for the third wicket to boost RCBโs total. The duo went after Behrendorff in the fifth over and thumped him for two fours and a six. After the powerplay, Maxwell took on Chris Jordan and pounded him for two maximums. Maxwell raced to his 50 off 25 balls, while Du Plessis got there soon after, off 30 deliveries.
The brilliant stand ended when Maxwell was caught at deep midwicket off Behrendorff. Du Plessis then miscued Cameron Green towards short fine leg as substitute fielder Vishnu Vinod took a juggling catch on the third attempt.
An impressive cameo from Dinesh Karthik (30 off 18) ensured that MI were set to chase 200.
MI vs RCB: Who won Player of the Match in yesterday's IPL 2023 match?
Behrendorff excelled for MI with the ball, claiming 3-36. In the chase, Suryakumar was outstanding, smashing seven fours and six sixes, while Wadhera and Kishan chipped in with significant contributions.
For RCB, Maxwell and Du Plessis shone again with the willow, before Karthik came in and put the finishing touches on the innings. Suryakumar, though, was the obvious choice for Player of the Match for his scintillating knock.
