Milestones like a hundred or five-wicket haul matter: Sreesanth on Virat Kohli's 95 in IND vs NZ 2023 World Cup match
Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth explained why he felt Virat Kohli going for his hundred against New Zealand in their 2023 World Cup match was the right thing to do. There has been a debate about whether players should think about their personal milestones while playing for the team.
However, Sreesanth opined that these milestones motivate the players to perform well for their country, which in the end benefits the team as a whole. He wants the Indian top order to continue firing all cylinders and scoring hundreds.
Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda alongside former Pakistan legendary cricketer Wasim Akram, here's what S Sreesanth had to say about milestones:
"I feel milestones like a hundred or five-wicket haul matter because of the motivation that it gives the players to do well. From an Indian point of view, I would want Virat to score hundred in every game. I want Rohit to score a hundred against England and have a good opening partnership with Shubman Gill."
Wasim Akram lauds Virat Kohli's fitness
Wasim Akram was just mesmerized by the way Virat Kohli ran between the wickets, despite fielding for 50 overs in testing conditions so far in the tournament.
Praising the star Indian batter for his fitness, Akram stated:
"People forget one thing that in the two innings where Virat scored a hundred and then a 95, he fielded for 50 overs too. To field for 50 overs and then run between the wickets the way he did just shows his exceptional fitness level."
With his sensational 95 against New Zealand, Kohli went to the top of the run-scoring charts in the 2023 World Cup with 354 runs to his name in five games with three fifties and a hundred already to his name. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is in second spot with 311 runs.
