"Missed a Ferrari by 23 runs" - The story behind Virender Sehwag's viral post for son Aaryavir after latter's 297-run knock in Cooch Behar Trophy

Former India batter Virender Sehwag's son Aaryavir scored an impressive 297 for Delhi against Meghalaya in the Cooch Behar Trophy. The youngster slammed 51 fours and three sixes in his 309-ball knock, which came at a strike rate of 96.12, reminiscent of the way Sehwag batted at his peak.

Reacting to his son's brilliant effort, proud father Sehwag took to his official X handle and contragulated Aaryavir. As he often does with his social media posts, though, there was an element of cheekiness in his wish for his son as well. The post, which was shared with a picture of Aaryavir and a screenshot of the scorecard from the Cooch Behar Trophy match, read:

"Well played @aaryavirsehwag. Missed a Ferrari by 23 runs. But well done, keep the fire alive and may you score many more daddy hundreds and doubles and triples. Khel jaao.."

As for the Ferrari reference, Sehwag had jokingly promised back in 2015 that he would gift his children a Ferrari if they went past his career-best Test score of 319, even in school cricket.

"Yes, my kids know I have made some humongous scores in Test cricket. So I have told them, if you cross that 319-run mark even in school cricket, I will present you a Ferrari," Sehwag had said back them.

Aaryavir fell three short of what would have been a memorable triple hundred when he was bowled by Rudra Singh Rathore. His knock, however, helped Delhi declare on 623-5 in response to Meghalaya’s 260.

Sehwag scored two triple-hundreds in Test cricket

Speaking of senior Sehwag, he holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Test cricket. The former right-handed batter clobbered 319 off 304 balls against South Africa in Chennai in March 2008, a knock that featured 42 fours and five sixes.

The 46-year-old is the only Indian batter with two triple centuries in Test cricket. The former opener also struck 309 off 375 balls against Pakistan in Multan in March 2004, striking 39 fours and six sixes.

Sehwag fell agonizingly short of becoming the first player to smash three triple tons in Test cricket. He was dismissed for 293 off 254 balls against Sri Lanka at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in December 2009. Apart from Sehwag, Karun Nair is the only other Indian batter with a triple hundred in Test cricket.
