Mohammad Shami plays backyard cricket with family after being ignored for ENG vs IND 2025 Tests [Watch]

Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami shared a video on social media on Tuesday, June 10, playing cricket with his family. The 34-year-old was last seen in action for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which concluded on June 3 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) securing their first title.

Enjoying some quality time with loved ones, Shami posted a clip of him playing backyard cricket with family and friends on Instagram. He captioned the video:

“A day well spent on the field with family.”

The 34-year-old pacer, acquired by SunRisers Hyderabad for INR 10 crore ahead of the 2025 season, endured a tough campaign. Shami featured in nine matches, managing just six wickets at an average of 56.16, while conceding runs at a costly economy rate of 11.23.

Hyderabad, meanwhile, failed to make it to the playoffs — a stark contrast to their runners-up finish in 2024. Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the team finished sixth on the points table with 13 points from 14 games.

Mohammad Shami left out of India’s squad for the England Test

On May 24, the BCCI announced an 18-member Indian squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Notably, veteran pacer Mohammad Shami was excluded from the squad. Commenting on his omission, Selection Committee chairman Ajit Agarkar said:

"He’s had a little bit of a setback over the past week, got some MRIs done. Wasn’t going to be able to play five Tests. Don’t think his workload is where he needs to be. Medical guys told he’ll be ruled out. We were hoping he’ll play some part, but if he’s not fit, we’d rather pick guys fit and available rather than waiting.”

Shami has represented India in 64 Test matches, taking 229 wickets at an average of 27.71, including six five-wicket hauls.
