Team India scored 219/6 in the first innings of the third T20I against South Africa on Wednesday (November 13) at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The four-match series is currently level at 1-1.
South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bowl first for the third straight match in the series. Marco Jansen gave the hosts a great start by dismissing Sanju Samson for a two-ball duck in the first over. Despite an early setback, Abhishek Sharma (50) and Tilak Varma batted aggressively and built a strong platform with their 107-up second-wicket partnership.
Keshav Maharaj and Andile Simelane picked up two wickets apiece in the middle overs to keep South Africa in the contest even though the opposition kept scoring briskly. Tilak Varma anchored the innings perfectly and played with a good tempo when the other middle-order batters struggled for rhythm.
Tilak notched up his maiden international century in the penultimate over and helped India set a daunting target of 220 for the hosts. Debutant Ramandeep Singh chipped in with a cameo of 15 (6) to support Varma in the death overs.

After the conclusion of the first innings of the third T20I, Indian batter Tilak Varma reflected on his batting performance, saying:
"Very happy, have been waiting for this moment since a long time. Coming back after injury and hitting a hundred his incredible. It was slightly challenging at the start, wicket was slightly two-paced, but after the start it went well."
He added:
"I held my shape and looked to focus on the basics. We both were under pressure, these knocks were important for both of us (him and Abhishek Sharma) we talked about following the basics and went through with it. Our spinners are bowling really well, we were looking for around 200-210, we got a good total, hoping for the win."
