"Mumbai Indians should humbly ask Rohit Sharma to become captain again in IPL 2025" - Sanjay Manjrekar

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar wants Mumbai Indians to re-appoint Rohit Sharma as their captain in IPL 2025. Sharma lost his place as MI captain in IPL 2024 when the franchise controversially signed Hardik Pandya in the trade window.

The then-MI coach Mark Boucher appointed Pandya as the new skipper, but the decision proved to be disastrous for the franchise. Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs under Rohit's captaincy in IPL 2023, but under Hardik, they finished 10th in the points table in 2024.

After playing under Hardik in IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma returned to lead India in T20 World Cup 2024 and led the team to championship. Speaking on Star Sports Hindi, Sanjay Manjrekar opined that the T20 World Cup winning captain should not be made to play under Hardik Pandya's captaincy by MI team management.

"Mumbai Indians should humbly ask Rohit Sharma to become captain again in IPL 2025. He should not be made to play under Hardik Pandya," Manjrekar said.

It isn't a new thing to see teams going back to their old captains in IPL. Previously, in 2022, Ravindra Jadeja handed back CSK's captaincy to MS Dhoni after the team could not perform well. It will be interesting to see if Hardik does the same thing in IPL 2025.

Immediately after IPL 2024, the rumor mill was abuzz with the claim that Rohit Sharma was heading to the mega auction.

Some reports even claimed that teams like Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have kept a major portion of their auction purse aside to sign Rohit.

However, of late, reports have suggested that Rohit will stay at MI.
