Mumbai name squad for Ranji Trophy 2024 encounter against Tripura; Prithvi Shaw & Suryakumar Yadav not includedÂ
Swashbuckling opener Prithvi Shaw finds himself out of Mumbai's squad for the upcoming third-round Ranji Trophy clash against Tripura away from home. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named a 16-man squad led by Ajinkya Rahane on Monday, October 21, following the defending champions' convincing nine-wicket triumph over Maharashtra.
Shaw kickstarted his domestic season in India through the Irani Cup after his brief county stint with Northamptonshire. The opening batter recorded a fifty in the second innings, as Mumbai secured the title courtesy of a first innings lead over the Rest of India.
He scored only 12 and seven runs in the first and second innings against Baroda in Mumbai's season opener defeat. In the recent clash against Maharashtra, he was dismissed for one in the first innings, but chipped in with an unbeaten 39 while chasing down the 74-run target.
According to reports, the team management has given Prithvi Shaw a break, while Surykaumar Yadav opted out due to family commitments. All-rounder Tanush Kotian is also unavailable for selection due to his expected call-up to the India A squad for the Australia tour.
"The Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association consisting of Mr. Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr. Kiran Powar and Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti has selected the following players to represent Mumbai in Ranji Trophy match against Tripura to be played from 26th to 29th October 2024 at MBB Stadium, Agartala," the statement by MCA read.

The opening batter has had a roller-coaster journey in his cricketing career so far. After a rapid rise, he made his way into the Indian team, only to lose his way and spiral down further. Shaw has shown glimpses of his ability and his undeniable talent, but injuries and off-field issues have hurt his case in recent times.
Prior to the squad announcement, he posted a story on his Instagram account with no background, with the text reading "Need a break thx", along with a cryptic smiling emoji.
