Musheer Khan suffers from a fracture after road accident; set to miss Irani Cup and early stages of Ranji Trophy - Reports

Mumbai batter Musheer Khan suffered a fracture after being involved in a road accident while traveling to Lucknow with his father Noushad Khan. The injury rules Musheer out of the upcoming Irani Cup, where he was set to play against the Rest of India (ROI). The setback also places him in doubt for the initial leg of the Ranji Trophy season.

The emerging player was recently part of the Duleep Trophy 2024, representing India B. Musheer scored a valiant 181 in the tournament opener against India A but recorded a string of poor scores after that.

“He didn’t travel with Mumbai team to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. He was probably traveling from his native place, Azamgarh, with his father, to Lucknow when the accident took place,” a source told the Times of India

The injury is yet to be confirmed by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), but it's expected that Musheer's replacement might be announced in the coming days for the Irani Cup clash, scheduled to begin in Lucknow on October 1.

Musheer Khan was having a memorable year up until the accident

The younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan came into the spotlight during the 2024 U-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he had a prolific campaign with both bat and ball. Musheer Khan translated his success into domestic cricket, playing a crucial role in guiding Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy title.

Since making his first-class debut in late 2022, the youngster has played nine matches, scoring 716 runs at an average of 51.14. He recorded three hundreds, two of which came in the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy campaign.

The selectors noticed Musheer's exploits and were keen to include him in the India A squad for the shadow tour of Australia in the coming months. Although the exact nature and severity of the fracture are yet to be known, he is unlikely to be a part of the overseas tour.
