It is the opening contest of the three-match T20I series between the two nations. It is the dawn of a new era for India as they are without their stalwarts Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. The trio retired from the T20I format last month after winning the World Cup.

After being asked to bat first, India got off to a blazing start as both openers played impactful cameos at the top. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a four on the very first ball of the match and continued in the same vein, racing to 40 (21). His partner, Shubman Gill, played second fiddle in the beginning but picked up pace during the later half of the powerplay. After a brilliant contribution of 34 (16), Gill perished in the sixth over, trying to hit a big shot.
Yashasvi Jaiswal also departed immediately on the next ball, leaving his side at 74/2 in 6.1 overs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav did not let the quick wickets derail his side's momentum, as he played aggressively from the onset.
