Netherlands vs Nepal T20I shockingly witnesses 3 Super Overs in 2025 tri-series [Watch]
The Scotland T20I tri-series clash between the Netherlands and Nepal went into the history books as it was settled after playing out three super overs in Glasgow on Monday, June 16. The Scott Edwards-led side finally prevailed in the end as the first two super overs had finished level, along with the initial 20-over contest.
Chasing 153 to win, Nepal lost their way in the run-chase, collapsing to 137-8 after 19 overs after being placed at 112-5 after 16 overs. However, Nandan Yadav scored a couple of boundaries towards the end, including one off the final ball, to send the match into a super over.
The first super over saw Kushal Bhurtel smash three boundaries to hand the Netherlands a daunting 20-run target. Max O'Dowd, however, heroically smashed consecutive boundaries towards the end of the over to level the scores, and send the game into a second super over.
The Netherlands, batting first this time, put in another good shift, posting an 18-run target. They were favorites after restricting Nepal to 11 runs off the first five balls. But Dipendra Singh Airee scored a six off the last ball, to send the game into an astonishing third super over.
Nepal lost both their wickets inside four deliveries to hand the Netherlands a paltry one-run target. The Men in Orange finished the game off with the first ball from an unlosable position, finally bringing an end to the contest.
In recent history, only two matches have featured multiple super overs, with the scores tied twice. The 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw multiple super overs, before the KL Rahul-led side prevailed.
The third T20I between India and Afghanistan in Bengaluru last year also saw the enforcement of a second super over. Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets in the space of three deliveries to bring an end to the clash and seal India's 3-0 triumph at home.
The Netherlands recently chased down 370 against Scotland in Dundee
The Men in Orange were recently involved in yet another historic outing in the recently concluded ODI leg of the 2025 Scotland Tri-Nation Series.
The Netherlands had successfully chased down a 370-run target, courtesy of Max O'Dowd's unbeaten ton, which is now also the highest individual score in the nation's ODI history. It marked the team's sole win in the tri-series, as they lost the reverse fixture, and both matches against Nepal.
