"Very good to get our first win of the World Cup" - Canada batter Nicholas Kirton after victory vs Ireland

At the post-match presentation, Nicholas Kirton received the Player of the Match award for his match-defining knock in the first innings. Reflecting on the win and his batting performance, Kirton said:

"Obviously bouncing back from the first game was important so it was pretty good getting the win today. I tried to get a hint of the pace of the wicket. Honestly it wasn't bad. Just varying (bounce) a little bit from the middle of the wicket but it wasn't bad. The outfield's a bit slow and one side was big. So (it was about) building a partnership and taking it deep. Very good to get our first win of the World Cup."

On the road ahead for his side, Nicholas continued:

"Hopefully we can continue from strength to strength. Our next focus is Pakistan. A rest day tomorrow and hopefully we come well again. The spinners bowled really well. Bit of purchase in the wicket so they came through really well. The pacers banged it into the wicket and used the bounce which was up and down. Just taking it one day at a time (grins)."

Canada will next face Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 11 at the same venue.
