"Nice to go back and look at your career and go tell the grandkids that you faced him"- Travis Head hails Jasprit Bumrah ahead of 2nd BGT 2024-25 Test
Australian batter Travis Head praised Jasprit Bumrah for his heroics in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth, which India won by a massive 295 runs. Head also felt Bumrah would ultimately finish his career as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history.
The champion Indian pacer wrecked the Aussie batting lineup with eight wickets in the series opener, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. With the Perth surface flattening out in the second innings, Bumrah still found a way to trouble the Aussie batters and picked up a well-set Head on 89.
Speaking to the reporters in the build-up to the second Test, Head hailed Bumrah and called it a challenge he looked forward to throughout the series.
"Jasprit will go down as probably one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game. I think we're finding that at the moment how challenging he can be, and it's nice to play against that. It's going to be nice to go back and look at your career and go tell the grandkids that you faced him. So not a bad series of playing with him. Hopefully I'll face a few more times, but he is challenging," he said.
Apart from his stellar bowling display, Bumrah also captained the side in Rohit Sharma's absence as India took a valuable 1-0 lead with four matches remaining.
The 30-year-old boasts incredible Test numbers with 181 wickets at an average of 20.06 in 41 outings.
"There's a lot of teams that lost the first Test or gone down in the series and brought it back" - Travis Head
Travis Head remained upbeat about Australia's chances of bouncing back and winning the India series despite being in a 0-1 hole.
The Aussies have not won a bilateral Test series against India since 2014-15, losing their previous four affairs, including two at home.
"Over the last couple of years, there's a lot of teams that lost the first Test or gone down in the series and brought it back and played really well. We've had some challenging times and a couple of challenging Tests last year," Head said in the same interaction.
"We didn't have a very good week. That's fine. But we have got four more opportunities to do it, we will crack on as we do, as we have done for the last few years. This team has dealt with adversity well. The small amount that we have had in the last three or four years, we have played well," he concluded.
The second Test will be a day-night affair at the Adelaide Oval, starting Friday, December 6.
