"No incident of assault has happened"- UP police issues clarification on reports of Bangladeshi fan being attacked during Kanpur Test

The second and final Test of the two-match series between India and Bangladesh kicked off at Green Park in Kanpur on Friday, September 27. On the opening day of the match, a Bangladeshi fan 'Tiger Robi' had to be rushed to the hospital after he was allegedly beaten by some Indian spectators.

Speaking to Sportstar, Robi stated that some people hit him on his back and lower abdomen. However, the Uttar Pradesh police have now issued a clarification, rubbishing the reports of an assault.

In a video shared by news agency ANI on social media, ACP Kalyanpur Abhishek Pandey confirmed that Robi was admitted to a hospital after his health deteriorated. He also mentioned that a liaison officer had been assigned to him for help.

Giving an update on the incident, Pandey said:

"During the match, one person whose name is Tiger, his health suddenly deteriorated and as his health deteriorated, with the help of the medical team, he was sent to the hospital. Now his health is fine and a liaison officer has been deputed with him so that if he faces any problem, he can be provided immediate help. No incident of assault has happened with him."

It is worth mentioning that the Uttar Pradesh government ramped up security at the stadium amid the tension in Kanpur surrounding Bangladesh's arrival for the second Test. Several reports suggested that some fans were unhappy with the tour due to alleged atrocities against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh during the anti-government protest.

Ahead of the start of the Kanpur Test, a protest was organized outside the stadium. An FIR was lodged against 20 people after the protest.

Bangladesh finished at 107/3 at stumps on Day 1

India won the toss and chose to field first in the Kanpur Test. Bangladesh were off to a poor start with the bat, with opener Zakir Hasan departing for a 24-ball duck.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shadman Islam got off to decent starts but failed to convert them into big scores, falling for 31 and 24, respectively. Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 40 as the day was called off early due to rain.

The visitors finished at 107/3. Right-arm pacer Akash Deep bagged two wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin claimed a solitary scalp. Meanwhile, India lead the two-match series 1-0, courtesy of a 280-run victory in the opening encounter in Chennai.
