"Not sure where the runs are going to come from for him against this attack" - Upset fans react after Rohit Sharma's poor outing in 2nd BGT TestÂ
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma's woes continued after getting dismissed for just 3 off 23 deliveries in the ongoing second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. The batter was trapped right in front in the early stages of the second session on Day 1 on Friday, December 6.
The captain had demoted himself down the order, to allow the prospering duo of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to prosper at the top of the innings. He had to walk out to back towards the end of the first session after Australia responded with a flurry of wickets.
With only net sessions and a bleak outing in the warm-up match against the Prime Minister's XI, Rohit came out to bat for the first time in the series after missing the first Test in Perth. The ace batter looked shaky at the crease, far from his free-flowing self.
Australia continued to build pressure until Boland finally came through. The right-arm pacer pitched it up, and the ensuing seam movement back into the batter did the rest. Rohit could not account for the nip-back and was trapped plumb. He considered a review but was talked out of it by Rishabh Pant. DRS showed three reds, justifying the on-field umpire's quick decision.
Fans, who were already impatient with Rohit and his string of poor scores, made themselves heard with a slew of reactions on social media.
"Even net batting would look better than how Rohit batted !! Lazy is not a strong word for his approach," one fan wrote
Rohit in all likelihood is playing his final Test series. Not sure where the runs are going to come from for him against this attack," one user opined
"Rohit possibly is a wicket that requires least amount of planning by Australian think tank," one tweet read
Team India moving along cautiously after Rohit Sharma's dismissal
The Indian skipper has struggled in red-ball cricket since the start of the home season. He had a dismal set of series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, recording only one fifty in 10 innings. The right-handed batter also failed to impress in the recent warm-up fixture ahead of the second Test.
Team India sunk to 87-5 in the second session after Rohit's dismissal. The visitors are now placed at 100-5 after 31 overs, with Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy repairing the innings.
