"Nothing is beyond your reach" - Mohammed Shami performs intense training during comeback trail
Team India's Mohammed Shami is currently completing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The veteran seamer has remained out of action since the 2023 World Cup last November.
Shami underwent Achilles tendon surgery earlier this year which ruled him out of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the subsequent 2024 T20 World Cup. During the final stretch of his comeback trail, the seasoned campaigner has been training hard to gear up for his comeback.
Taking to his official Instagram handle on Sunday, August 18, Shami shared a video to give fans a glimpse of his recent training session. He was seen performing intense workouts in the gym under the watchful eyes of physio Nitin Patel.
He captioned the post:
"If you’re brave enough to fail and try again, nothing is beyond your reach."
Mohammed Shami grabbed the headlines with his imperious run at the 2023 ODI World Cup. The speedster was the leading wicket-taker of the edition, bagging 24 scalps from just seven outings. He picked up a stunning seven-wicket haul in the crucial sem-final clash against New Zealand.
"We need him in Australia" - Jay Shah hopeful of Mohammed Shami regaining fitness ahead of upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah recently confirmed that Mohammed Shami is likely to be a part of India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia later this year.
During an interview with the Times of India, here's what Shah said on being asked about the fitness status of Mohammed Shami and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav:
"Your question about Shami is right, but I cannot give you any answer on Mayank Yadav as there is no guarantee whether he will be in the team or no. But he is potentially a good fast bowler, and we are looking after him. He is currently in the NCA. Shami will be there because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia."
Team India are set to take on Bangladesh in a two-match home Test series, beginning September 19. It remains to be seen if Shami will be able to regain full fitness ahead of the series.
