“Our spin maestro” - BCCI Secretary Jay Shah shares a post wishing Ravichandran Ashwin on his 38th birthday

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah took to X on Tuesday, September 17, to share a message wishing veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on his 38th birthday. The spin wizard will be in action in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting September 19 in Chennai.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s most recent outing was in the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League, where he led the Dindigul Dragons to victory. The 38-year-old made a significant impact, scoring 252 runs in nine innings with three fifties and taking nine wickets.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah captioned his birthday post:

"Happy Birthday to our spin maestro, @ashwinravi99! It has been a true privilege to witness your brilliance with the ball. I look forward to seeing you continue to set new benchmarks. Wishing you a fantastic year ahead!"

Ashwin last wore the Indian jersey during the final match of a five-Test series earlier this year, when India hosted England. The game was held in Dharamsala, where Ashwin took nine wickets and helped India secure a victory by an innings and 64 runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin has won 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy

Ravichandran Ashwin made his debut for India in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Harare in 2010, followed by his T20I debut a week later against Zimbabwe. He was a member of the 2011 ODI World Cup squad that made history under MS Dhoni, securing India's second title, the first since 1983. Ashwin was also part of the victorious 2013 Champions Trophy team.

Ashwin’s Test debut came in 2011 against the West Indies in Delhi, where he earned the Player of the Match award for taking nine wickets across two innings.

Since then, the veteran has played 100 Tests, amassing 516 wickets and 3,309 runs, including five centuries. He has also featured in 116 ODIs, claiming 156 wickets, and has represented India in 65 T20Is, taking 72 wickets.
