"Overhyped T20 player" - Fans react as Rishabh Pant departs for silver duck in IND vs SA 2024 T20 World Cup final
India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant failed to deliver for the Men in Blue against South Africa in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The left-hander departed for a two-ball duck, caught out by SA wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock off Keshav Maharaj in the all-important final.
Pant's wicket helped the Proteas strike twice as Maharaj dismissed India captain Rohit as well in the second over. The 26-year-old had managed 15 and four against Australia and England in his previous two outings, respectively. He has scored 171 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 129.54 without a half-century despite playing at No. 3.
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) criticized Pant for his failure in the summit clash. One user wrote:
"Rishabh Pant is overhyped t20 player. Only have few shots. Strange he is still playing for Indian Team in T20s."
Another user wrote:
"Rishabh pant should retire from t20s."
"Rishabh pant has not learnt anything. Sweep failure continues," a third user added.
