PBKS vs GT: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2024?
Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by three wickets in yesterday's IPL 2024 match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
In a low-scoring game, PBKS won the toss and batted first. They were, however, bowled out for a disappointing total of 142, with left-arm spinner Sai Kishore staarring with 4-33. GT made heavy weather of the target before sneaking past the finish line in 19.1 overs.
Punjab Kings got off to a sensational start, with Prabhsimran Singh clubbing Sandeep Warrier for three fours and a six in the second over. The entertainment, though, was short-lived, as Prabhsimran (35 off 21) perished to Mohit Sharma, edging a full ball to the wicketkeeper.
Rilee Rossouw (9) was trapped lbw to Noor Ahmad as he missed his sweep. GT took a smart review to get the decision in their favor. Another sharp DRS call ended PBKS skipper Sam Curran's (20 off 19) stay at the crease. He was adjudged leg before to Rashid Khan.
Ahmad then got the big wicket of Liam Livingstone (6), who edged a googly while attempting a flick. Sai Kishore joined the fun by cleaning up Jitesh Sharma (13), completely deceiving him with his guile. There were no heroics from Ashutosh Sharma (3) this time, as he holed out to deep extra cover off the Gujarat Titans left-arm spinner.
Punjab were seven down for 99 when Shashank Singh (8) chipped a return catch to Sai Kishore. Harpreet Brar (29 off 12) played a fine cameo to give the PBKS innings some respectability. He fell to a good catch by Shahrukh Khan near the boundary to give Sai Kishore his fourth wicket.
Rahul Tewatia's cameo guides GT to crucial win
Chasing 143, Gujarat Titans lost Wriddhiman Saha for 13 as he pulled Arshdeep Singh straight to midwicket.
Skipper Shubman Gill (35 off 29) batted well, but gifted his wicket away, lofting Livingstone to long-off. The PBKS spinner had his second scalp when he knocked over David Miller (4) with a tossed-up delivery.
Sai Sudharsan (31) yet again fell in the 30s, chopping a length ball from Curran onto his stumps. Azmatullah Omarzai (13) was the next to go, nicking a hard length delivery from Harshal Patel to the keeper. The dismissal put Gujarat Titans in a spot of bother at 103-5.
Rahul Tewatia (36* off 18), though, ensured that Gujarat got home, even if not in very convincing fashion. He struck seven fours in his innings to pull the team over the line yet again even as a couple of more wickets fell at the other end.
Tewatia slammed Kagiso Rabada for three fours in the 18th over, which also featured a six from Shahrukh. The 20-run over pretty much sealed the deal for Gujarat.
Harshal claimed two wickets in the penultimate over, but Tewatia hit the winning runs, glancing the first ball of the 20th over from Arshdeep for a boundary.
PBKS vs GT: Who won Player of the Match in yesterday's IPL 2024 match?
Sai Kishore was exceptional with the ball for Gujarat Titans and was rewarded with a four-fer. Ahmad impressed with 2-20, while Rashid had figures of 1-15 from his four overs. In the chase, Tewatia guided the team home with a good knock in a pressure situation.
For Punjab, Prabhsimran top-scored with 35, while Brar played a handy cameo. With the ball, Harshal chipped in with three wickets, while Livingstone picked up two.
Sai Kishore, though, was named Player of the Match for his four-fer, which set up GT's win.
