"Peaking at the right time" - Fans react to Virat Kohli's impressive knock in IND vs BAN T20 World Cup Super 8 match
Team India opener Virat Kohli showed glimpses of good form in the side's Super 8 match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against Bangladesh in Antigua on Saturday, June 22. The ace batter scored 37 runs off 28 balls.
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first. India were off to a decent start, with Kohli and Rohit Sharma forming a 39-run stand. While Sharma departed in the fourth over, Kohli continued to play with a positive intent.
The seasoned campaigner hit three sixes and a single four during his stay at the crease. Kohli, who failed to make a significant impact in the group stage, seems to be getting into the groove at this important juncture of the tournament.
Kohli was lauded by many on social media for his impressive batting exploits against Bangladesh. Here are some of the top reactions:
Several Indian supporters lauded Kohli for his approach as he tried to score runs at a brisk pace by playing attacking shots.
"Virat Kohli played Brilliantly ,inspite he got out for 37(28) ,his intent was very clear and his strike Rate has high .We need more from him against Australia," wrote a fan
"I love this Intent Version of Virat Kohli in T20s, I enjoyed it in IPL & I am enjoying it here," commented another
"Was waiting for these shots from 4 innings and finally he performed like the T20 Virat Kohli we know. Bit happy today," chimed in yet another
It is worth mentioning that during his knock, Kohli became the first batter to complete 1,200 runs in T20 World Cups and 3,000 runs in World Cups.
Virat Kohli was dismissed in the ninth over by Tanzim Hasan Sakib
Virat Kohli's promising innings ended in the ninth over after he was bowled by Bangladeshi pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib. The batter came down the track, attempting to play a big shot on the short delivery.
However, he was undone by the lack of pace and failed to get any connection. The ball ultimately ended up crashing onto the stumps and Hasan provided his team with a massive breakthrough.
It was a crucial over by Hasan, as he also got rid of the in-form Suryakumar Yadav in the same over. The swashbuckling batter looked to guide the ball towards the third man but ended up gloving it to the keeper.
