"Picking unnecessary hosts for Test matches" - Fans react as Day 2 of IND vs BAN 2024 2nd Test called off

Fans were left frustrated with the entire Day 2 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur being called off due to wet outfield. Although the rain stopped, and the super-soppers were in action, there was plenty of water on the outfield which forced the umpires to call off the day's play.

Notably, only 35 overs were bowled on the first day (September 27) due to rain and bad light. The visitors are currently at 107 for three, with Mominul Haque (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) at the crease. Akash Deep has been impressive for India with two wickets.

Earlier, this month, the rain gods were not too kind during the one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand in Noida as well. The game was abandoned due to rain, as no play was possible for the entire five days due to a wet outfield. Several fans had taken aim at the stadium's sub-par drainage facilities and lack of preparedness.

Similarly, the cricket fraternity feels Kanpur's drainage facility is not efficient enough to cope with the few hours of rain. They took to X to lambast the BCCI for choosing Kanpur as the venue for the second Test.

Here are some more reactions to the fans criticizing the BCCI for organizing the game in Kanpur.

"This is beyond pathetic. We could lose important 8 points of WTC because of your worst ground selection. No proper drainage, bad lights, rain and you are conducting a test match here," a fan posted.
"There are so many grounds in India why Kanpur you know rain was there in matches days pathetic planning," a fan commented.
"If it rains then there should be an alternative stadium to conduct game," another posted.
"no rain today still no play. whose idea was it to allow kanpur to host india vs Bangladesh test," a fan tweeted.

How will the WTC standings be affected if IND vs BAN 2nd Test ends in a draw?

Although the weather forecast for Day 3 is better, there are still chances of rain in Kanpur. The game is likely to end as a draw if there isn't much action possible on Sunday too.

The result will then certainly pinch the Indian team, who are currently at the top of WTC standings with a win percentage of 71.67. The draw will fetch them four points and keep them at the top. However, it will also put them under pressure to perform well in the upcoming series.

Rohit Sharma and Co. will face New Zealand at home and then visit Australia, and it could be tough for them to maintain dominance at the top. With Sri Lanka fast approaching a 2-0 series whitewash of New Zealand, they are also strong contenders for the top two spots.
