[Pictures] “Mission accomplished” – India captain Rohit Sharma gets candid with 2024 T20 World Cup trophy

India captain Rohit Sharma posed with the 2024 T20 World Cup trophy following his team’s thrilling final win against South Africa by seven runs in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The triumph was a huge relief for the Men in Blue after missing out on consecutive ICC trophies at the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup last year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped candid photographs of Rohit posing with the ICC trophy from several angles before leaving the Caribbean. The 37-year-old looked happy and relaxed, with the pristine ocean and blue sky serving as the perfect backdrop.

The Indian Cricket Team uploaded the photographs of Rohit Sharma with the ICC trophy on Instagram, with the caption:

“A billion dreams, a billion emotions, and a billion smiles! Mission accomplished, World Cup conquered. We are World Champions. Hey, Captain! You’ve done it!”

Rohit has become only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni (2007) to win the T20 World Cup. With the victory, he guided the Men in Blue to their first ICC trophy in 11 years.

With the bat, Rohit finished as the second-highest run-getter in the tournament. The right-hander amassed 257 runs in eight innings at a stunning strike rate of 156.70, including three half-centuries. His innings of 92 (41) and 57 (39) proved to be the difference against Australia (Super-8) and England (semi-final), respectively.

Rohit Sharma ended his T20I career as the leading run-scorer in the format, amassing 4,231 runs in 159 matches, including five centuries and 32 50s. He, however, will continue to play in Tests and ODIs.
