"Please retire" - Fans troll Rohit Sharma for another failure against Bangladesh during 1st IND vs BAN 2024 Test
India captain Rohit Sharma failed to deliver with the bat against Bangladesh again, this time in the ongoing Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The right-handed batter departed for just six runs off 19 deliveries on Day 1 of the first Test on Thursday, September 19. The 37-year-old was out caught behind by his Bangladesh counterpart Najmul Hossain Shanto off Hasan Mahmud's bowling as India lost their first wicket for just 14 runs in the sixth over.
For the unversed, Rohit has 39 runs in four Test innings against Bangladesh. This was his third single-digit score against the neighboring nation. However, his previous game against the Bangla Tigers came in 2019.
Fans on X trolled Sharma for another failure against Bangladesh. One user wrote:
"I might get cooked but still I will speak fact. Please retire Rohit Sharma, it's getting difficult for us to defend your selfless PR."

Here are a few more reactions:
Rohit Sharma has 461 runs in 12 Test innings this year. He scored two centuries against England in the five-match Test series earlier this year.
The opening batter also has 706 runs, including three tons, in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. He is only behind his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal for the most runs by an Indian in the WTC cycle.
"Could have been selected for the Duleep trophy" - Sanjay Manjrekar on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's absence from the red-ball tournament
Former India batter Sanjay Manjekar recently said Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should've played the Duleep Trophy ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
The cricketer-turned-commentator wrote on X:
“India has played 249 international matches (since Aug 1, 2019) in the last 5 years. Rohit has played only 59% of those. Virat 61 % & Bumrah 34%. I see them as well rested India players. Could have been selected for the Duleep trophy."
Apart from Rohit, Kohli also departed for just six runs as India are currently 44-3.
